Dear Mac friends:
Many thanks to Charlie Hutchens, John Hamill, Tucker Trainor, Nathan Brentzel and Dave Sevick for joining me at the Goodwill Computer Recycling Center today.
Today, we tried to keep up with the morning whirlwind in the form of four members of the visiting St. Alphonus School Tech Team. In just over two hours, Colleen Ballantyne, Annamarie Lovre, Ryan Wasil and Carl Foss de-manufacured 14 iMacs. They were tearing through them so quickly, we had to make a trip to the basement to get them more. At one point, young Mr. Foss was spotted with a screwdriver in each hand, trying to turn two screws at once.
John Hamill, King of the RAM Tester, presided over his duties in his newly-appointed work station, testing a postal service bin full of RAM today. We're not telling where the swivel chair with arms came from.
We refurbished just seven Macs today, but three of them are Leopard-capable (two more Mirror Drive Door Dual 1.25 ghz G4 Towers). We also de-manufactured four more Macs and one Apple CRT display after our visitors left. That makes 18 Macs and one display de-manufactured. Our all-time total of refurbished Macs is now 2,381.
We took in three keyboards today. We're still very short, and we will soon be turning our attention to cleaning and testing what's come in over the past several weeks. We're dreading the actual counting....
We've wrapped up the first quarter of 2010, and here's some figures for you (forgive the listing in pounds, but it's what recyclers deal with):
• Refurbished items: 3,392.2 pounds (95 items).
• De-manufatured items: 4,126.1 pounds (111 items).
• Total weight: 7,478.3. That's 3.74 TONS.
I know MY back hurts....
Our next scheduled workday is Friday, April 2.
We hope to see you there!
