Dear Mac friends:
I made a scouting trip of the parking around the Goodwill building today. It isn't pretty.
More than half of the free, on-street parking spaces normally within three blocks of the building are are inaccessible due to high snow. The metered spaces along Carson St. look OK, but I don't know if the meters are being enforced at this time.
If you're really dedicated and don't mind the cost, the best place to park is The Ladle parking garage at the corner of South 26 St. and Sidney St., a block from Goodwill in the direction of the river. The entrance is on Sidney St. If you're there all day, it could cost as much at $8 or $9.
Today I saw one side of the 1800 block of Sarah St. completely filled with 11 cars covered in snow that have been in the same place since the snow of Feb. 5-6, untouched by humans. The entire block. That's one way to save a parking space, but indicative of the situation in the South Side. There are many cars parked all over just the same way. People are just walking or using public transportation to get about.
We'll still have a workday this week, but don't feel obligated to get there if parking will create a hardship for you.
Many thanks...
