Dear Mac friends:
Many thanks to Charlie Hutchens, John Hamill, Tucker Trainor, and Dave
Sevick for joining me at the Goodwill Computer Recycling Center
yesterday. Rich Fitzgibbon was unavoidably detained being photographed
in front of an Apple Store in Ottawa, eh?
Boy, we really miss those Keystone Oaks School District Macs. We began
bring Macs from the basement storage area at Goodwill, and they are
not nearly as "robust" as the ones we've been used to working on. We
only refurbished six Macs but had to de-manufacture 16 others. This
brings our all-time total to 2,218.
We did a rough inventory of ready-to-sell refurbished Macs. There are
89 in the ComputerWorks store, and another 187 in storage.
We estimate there are only another 285 Macs in Goodwill storage
awaiting refurbishment. Based on what we have seen today, we think
maybe 50-60 percent may be able to be refurbished. None of them have
keyboard or mice.
We still have a critical shortage of USB Apple mice and keyboards. We
do not have enough to supply all the already-prepared Macs we have. As
the holiday gift-buying season is upon us, we are concerned the
ComputerWorks store will not be able to take advantage of our
inventory. Please pass the word. We can use any brand of USB Apple
keyboard and mice.
A construction note: It's still there, only it's even worse. You know
what to do :-)
We will have our next workday on Friday, October 23. At our workday on
Friday, October 30, we will be starting early at 8:00 a.m. to begin
packing the 50 iMacs we've prepared to be sent to Nyadire, Zimbabwe.
This task is decidedly non-technical, and we can use any help we can
get. If you want to see where our Macs are headed, you can visit www.nyadire.org
Hope to see you there!
