The "My Passport Essential SE" one of my favorite drives recently. They are USB 2.0 , similar in size to an iPhone, and a great value at $149 for 750GB.
One thing that irked me however was the inability to turn off the special Virtual CD "feature" that mounts a "WD SmartWare" Virtual CD image on your Desktop any time you connect the USB drive to your Mac. Here is the utility and specific instructions to fix the issue and get the Virtual CD to go away:

The backup software that ships with this drive called "WD SmartWare" is useful and worth a look! Easy to setup with a detailed Mac User Manual.

btw .... similar issues were recently corrected with the "U3" auto-mount when you use "SanDisk Cruzer" brand thumb drives ..... now allowing you to remove that annoying and useless disk image with this utility:
