PITTSBURGH, Nov. 18, 2009 – The Board of Directors of Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania has given approval for moving the organization’s headquarters and main client service center from the South Side building it has occupied since 1967 to a two-building business park in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh.

“This is another important step in the journey we began two years ago when we determined that modernizing our current building would be much more expensive than moving to another location,” said Michael J. Smith, Goodwill SWPA President/ CEO. “Earlier this year, we agreed to sell our building at 2600 East Carson Street to Burns & Scalo Real Estate for development as a residential property.

“Subsequently, we signed a preliminary lease to own agreement with The Rubinoff Company for what has been known as the 51st Street Business Technology Center in Lawrenceville. The final step, except for the build-out of our new headquarters, will come in January with the closing on the sale of the Carson Street building to Burns & Scalo and the execution of our lease with Rubinoff.”

Located on 51st Street just off of Butler Street, the Lawrenceville site includes two Class “A” flex-space buildings with a combined total of about 106,000 square feet. Detailed plans and cost estimates for renovating the two buildings are being developed by the Pittsburgh architectural firm Strada. The move is tentatively scheduled for late 2010.

In addition to the Carson Street building, Burns & Scalo also will purchase several surrounding lots owned by Goodwill, but the transaction will not include the Goodwill store at 2700 East Carson Street which will remain in operation.

“The Lawrenceville site is a good fit for us,” Mr. Smith said. “It is easily accessible by public transit for our clients, and when renovated, it will accommodate all our current requirements and foreseen future needs.”
