1. Made sure my computer was Intel based and was backed up to Time
Capsule and SuperDuper! volumes successfully.
2. Went to the Apple Store Shadyside, bought 10.6 Snow Leopard ( SL )
for $29 + tax ( no User Group discounts allowed )
3. Placed SL into my trusty Mac mini , 1.66 Ghz Core Duo Intel , 1GB
RAM , 60GB HD .... with 37.62 GB free.
4. Opened the SL installer. Finder menus became blanked out and only
the installer accessible. Expected that ...
5. Installed using using "only local printers" option, no extra
languages or fonts, no X11 ... just 10.6 with no frills.
6. Surprised to see that no reboot from DVD was needed ! Yeah !
Unless you chose the new feature that allows a reboot from DVD to
restore Time Machine or run Disk Utility .... very nice.
7. Also noted that the startup drive was front and center in the
installer window when choosing the install volume. A button allowed
for showing all connected drives.
8. Noted that the options for 1. Upgrade 2. Archive and install 3.
Erase and Install ... are gone in SL. Simpler.
9. Installed SL smoothly over 35 minutes.
10. Very pleased to see 48.22 GB now free ... I just got back 11 GB on
a 60GB drive ! Yeah !
11. Since this is mainly my "media mac" for A-V use, these apps are
commonly used and all tested fine !
- Safari
- QuickTime X ( awesome app )
- Handbrake 0.9.3
- VLC 1.0.1
- Google Earth 5.0.1
- Keynote
12. Most noteworthy is the much improved Time Capsule speed and more
information is displayed.
So far tonight I am very pleased with SL 10.6 ....
:-)
