[NPMUG] Goodwill CRC update, August 28

Dear Mac friends:

Many thanks to Charlie Hutchens, John Hamill, Tucker Trainor, Dave  
Sevick and especially to the Tech Team from St. Alphonsus School in  
Pine Twp. for joining me at the Goodwill Computer Recycling Center  
today.

Our most excellent Tech Team visitors blitzed through our unprocessed  
stock of keyboards, mice and power cords like a whirlwind, completely  
exhausting our backlog. They turned out 172 keyboards, 151 mice and  
178 power cords, saving us hours of work that would have had to have  
been diverted from refurbishing Macs. The crew's photo is below.

The donations continue to flood in. This week we received five bins,  
twice as much as in any of the previous four weeks. We've left  
ourselves a backlog of Macs for next week.

Today we refurbished 17 Macs, re-imaged one from a store return, and  
de-manufactured 9 and passed the pieces along Goodwill's recycling  
chain. Our all-time total is now 2,097.

A construction note: PennDOT's Carson St. widening project is now a  
guessing game. The 26th St. intersection in front of the Goodwill  
Building was open last week, but closed today. I'm getting out of the  
construction prediction business. The entrance to the ComputerWorks  
store is still partially restricted, making it a pain for customers to  
visit. You can get there, you just have to walk around the fences.

We'll have another workday on Friday, September 4. Thanks to the St.  
Alphonsus Tech Team, it will be a full day of rehabilitating Macs.
