Dear Mac friends:
Many thanks to Charlie Hutchens, Rich Fitzgibbon, John Hamill, Tucker
Trainor, and Dave Sevick for joining me at the Goodwill Computer
Recycling Center today.
We continue to receive larger-than-normal donations coming in off the
street. With our limited space, we need to attempt to clear these Macs
to keep our limited space relatively manageable.
We continue to make a dent in clearing Macs that tend to pile up as
they are put aside for more attention than normal. For example, this
week we received 10 G4 Mirror Drive Door Power Macs, all of them
missing hard drives and video cards. This type of machine usually sits
around until we can obtain the missing pieces to even see if it boots.
Today we refurbished 11 Macs, re-imaged five more from store returns,
and de-manufactured 12 and passed the pieces along Goodwill's
recycling chain. Our all-time total is now 2,080.
Two of today's total were Dual 1.25 mhz G4 Mirror Drive Door machines
capable of running Leopard. If we get needed components, more will be
following them into the CompterWorks store.
A construction note: The South 26th St. intersection has been
partially re-opened as the Carson St. widening project slowly moves
east. The entrance to the ComputerWorks store is partially restricted,
making it a pain for customers to visit. You can get there, you just
have to walk around the fences.
We'll have another workday on Friday, August 28. It will be a
decidedly non-technical session as we must clear a large number of
keyboards and other parts that have been accumulating on the shelves.
We are again short of mice; we do not have enough to go with the Macs
we already have in stock.
Hope to see you there!
