Schmidt Resigns His Seat on Apple's Board
Google CEO Departs as Competition Between One-Time Allies Heats Up ;  
FTC Vows to Continue Probe of Overlap

Google Inc. Chief Executive Eric Schmidt resigned from Apple Inc.'s  
board as the companies face regulatory scrutiny over their board ties  
and as their businesses increasingly overlap.

Mr. Schmidt's departure comes as the Federal Trade Commission has been  
investigating whether Mr. Schmidt's role on Apple's board could raise  
concerns about competition.

The resignation also comes as Google has increasingly entered Apple's  
turf. Last month, Google said it was working on Chrome OS, an  
operating system designed for computers that could compete with  
Apple's Macs. It follows Google's decision to launch an operating  
system for mobile phones dubbed Android that compete ...
