[NPMUG] No capital "s"

Today, for reasons I do not understand, I have been unable to type a  
capital "s".  That is, sHIFT+s does nothing except make a "thunk"  
sound.  Everything else seems to work fine -- other letters, other  
caps.  I also noticed that there was a "voice" program running -- my  
mail headers were being "read" and "spoken" by a generated voice.

Any thoughts on this issue would be appreciated.
