[NPMUG] sluggish online activity

About  3 or 4 weeks ago I began noticing a degradation in the speed  
of my online activities, Safari and iTunes store in particular on my
Intel Dual Core iMAC running system 10.4.11.
At first I thought it may be Verizon DSL so I checked it against a  
DELL PC I have connected to the same wireless router and Internet  
Explorer and iTunes there are significantly faster. I ran Symantec  
anti virus and came up with 14 spyware files which have been deleted.  
Does anyone have any suggestions of where I should begin trouble  
shooting.
